Join us in a celebration of Dance

This event will take place for the first time in 2025. It has been created to support students of Nova Arts College, a post-16 performing arts school in Barnsley.

HOW ARE WE FUNDED?

The college is designed to be free to all students, at all times. The government provides funding for each of our students for each of the two years they are at the college. This funding pays for our staff to teach the BTEC, plus some enrichment. But we want to go further.

WHY DO WE NEED TO RAISE MONEY?

In order to grow, support the increasing number of student applications, and raise the standard of opportunity we must generate extra funds, and we want to do this without passing costs on to students and their families as much as possible. We cannot contribute to the increasing issue of money being a barrier to the arts. This means getting creative. Organising a dance event seems like an ideal way to do this. Our students get to work within the project, which contributes to their education and coursework and we bring the dance community together to showcase the amazing talent we have.

This first year will be a bit different. This year the funds are being raised to help Nova Arts remain a college. The bad weather has recently destroyed much of the college. We had planned to begin work on refurbishing our second floor in order to accommodate our new students in September, but new roof leaks damaged our second floor and unfortunately our current college facilities.

We have launched an all-out fundraising campaign to raise the funds needed to repair the damage to the current college and to refurbish the second floor ready for September 2025. The funds raised from this Gala will be allocated to this project. Full details of our campaign can be found HERE.

THE NOVA ARTS COMMUNITY DANCE FUND

As a Not-for-profit organisation we are dedicated to the betterment of the community by providing more opportunities for young people. As the college is now established we want to give back when we can, specifically to dance and the arts. The Gala provides a pathway to do this. Here's how it will work.

• The Gala is held each year - Tickets are sold (participant and spectator)

• Funds are collected

• Expenses for the event are paid (in the future we would like these to be paid by sponsorship - programmes etc). We plan on using the same location/staging and seating each year so this will be easier to plan for.

• Funds are then allocated

• A proportion will go to the college to accomplish our goals

• A portion will be allocated to the community fund

• The fund total will be announced each year and broken down into small allocations

• Applications for the fund will then open

• Nova Arts Students will then work with our team to pick who will be awarded

For example - In 2025 the fund may total £2000

It may be broken down into 10 opportunities for performers and dance schools to apply for £200

or 4 opportunities for £500.

We will ask the community what is best.
